Make
What is this?
The make of an appliance is also known as the brand. All appliances are made by a manufacturing company. Some of the common manufacturers are GE, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Viking, Frigidaire, Maytag, and LG.
How can I find it?
You can find the Make on the front of your appliance.
Model
What is this?
The model of an appliance, also known as the model number, is usually a group of numbers or a combination of numbers and letters that identify the style or a design of the appliance. For example, WM3001HPA is the model number of an LG washing machine. Model numbers may be printed or stamped on an aluminum or white tag on your appliance.
Tips
- A zero (0) may actually be the letter O & a lower-case L may be the number 1
- Kenmore models always have a three-digit prefix (110. or 665.)
How can I find it?
You can find the model number in the following locations, but we recommend you provide the model number from the appliance, since the user manuals may list multiple model numbers:
- User manual
- The model number is generally located on the front page of the user manual. If there is more than one model number listed, use the model number from the appliance to ensure the correct model number is provided.
- On the appliance
- See one of the following appliance types to find where your model number is located:
Top-loading washers
- Under the lid
- On the back of the control panel
- On the lower-front or side of the main cabinet body
Front-loading washers
- Behind the door
- Behind or on top of the control panel
- On the side of the unit near the front
Top- or front-loading washer-dryer combination units
- Inside the dryer door, on the door frame
- On the top of the dryer
- On the side of the washer
Gas or Electric Dryers
- Inside the door
- On the cabinet frame
- On the back of the unit, near the top
- On the side of the unit, near the front
Cooktops & Ranges
Gas:
- Inside the cooktop--Lift up the top
- On the outside, bottom of the unit
- Inside the top of the vent duct
Electric:
- Under one of the surface burners, or inside the cooktop
- On the outside, bottom of the unit
- Inside the top of the vent duct
Gas or Electric Ovens
- Open the door, on oven side of the door jamb
- With the boiler draw open, on the lower drawer jamb
Refrigerators - Inside the refrigerator or freezer
- On the upper left or right side wall
- Behind the lower crisper drawer
- Behind the lower toe kick-plate
- On the face frame of the refrigerator body
Dishwashers
- Inside the door jamb on the left, right, or top
- On the door, on the left, right or top
Garbage Disposers - On the side or bottom of the unit
Deep Freezers
- Open the door, on the frame of the unit
- Inside the unit, on the left or the right
Serial Number
What is this?
A serial number is a unique number assigned to an appliance to identify it.
How can I find it?
The serial number may be printed or stamped on an aluminum or white tag on your appliance. It is almost always on the same tag as the model number.

Error Codes
What is this?
In recent years, manufacturers are creating appliances that display error or fault codes. These codes provide information on why an appliance is not working correctly and what needs to be fixed or replaced.
For example, a GE range may display error code F0. This means the touch pad is stuck or not working. The touch pad or the oven control is defective and needs to be replaced.
How can I find it?
Most appliances manufactured within the last few years contain a digital display that shows the error code. When an appliance malfunctions, an error code will show in the display. When you see an error code, give My Appliance Tech a call right away!
